Energy Healing & Trauma Resolution

Trauma is a pervasive fact of modern life. It affects everyone not just soldiers and victims of abuse

— Peter Levine

Traumatised is the normal human condition, until we start doing the work on ourselves. We all hold our wounding in our bodies, quite often this is deeply unconscious, and it motivates our behaviours until we become a little more aware.

Embodiment

The process of embodiment involves listening to, and fully living in our physical bodies. Befriending your body results in becoming more deeply in tune with life.

The energetic impact of trauma and related stressors

The nature of our vital energy is dynamic. It flows. However, when faced with painful difficulties in our life, we sometimes suppress our feelings in order to carry on functioning. We hold down the pain and anger and grief and fear through our defense systems.

Traumatic symptoms stem from the frozen residue of energy that has not been resolved and discharged.

Energy healing assists with clearing emotional / energetic blockages

Estimate constitute the source of 80% of all physical and emotional illnesses.

Emotions are a dynamic force of energy-in-motion, and if long held patterns of suppression are not resolved, the blocked energy that results may eventually manifest as chronic or acute conditions of ill health. Leading to a variety of symptoms, some of which may not emerge for many years.

Trauma stagnates in our energy field creating blocks to the natural flow. These blocks could be considered as frozen energy consciousness. Energy blockages cause distortions in the Human Energy Field, which can deplete our vitality and potentially lead to dis-ease.

Healing and Embodiment

“Traumatized people chronically feel unsafe inside their bodies: The past is alive in the form of gnawing interior discomfort. Their bodies are constantly bombarded by visceral warning signs, and, in an attempt to control these processes, they often become expert at ignoring their gut feelings and in numbing awareness of what is played out inside. They learn to hide from their selves.”

― Bessel van der Kolk

In suppression of negative emotions, we also hold down out positive feelings. We numb out. We get dull. Life is mundane and boring. We get caught in habitual vicious cycles and are unable to create what we long for in life.

True healing comes from the proper digestion and integration of our experiences, including ancestral experiences.

The single most important issue for traumatised people is to find a sense of safety in their own bodies

Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives

Humans have a natural ability to overcome the effects of trauma but when we try to deal with traumatic or overwhelming events on a purely rational basis, we subdue the primal instincts of the body and this can cause a further build-up of stagnated energy.

Dissociation

A common defense mechanism is dissociation. Dissociation includes a wide array of experiences from mild detachment from the immediate surroundings, to more severe detachment from physical and emotional experiences. The major characteristic of all dissociative phenomena involves a detachment from reality.

Physical ailments as a result of partial or compartmentalised dissociation can include headaches, PMS, IBS, back problems and chronic pain. Often such conditions are then further compounded by constriction in energetic flow - or consciousness. We are cut off from ourselves.

Trauma victims cannot recover until they become familiar with and befriend the sensations in their bodies.

Vagal tone

Being fearful means that you live in a body that is always on guard. Angry people live in angry bodies. The bodies of child-abuse victims are tense and defensive until they find a way to relax and feel safe. In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.

How I work

Non-judgemental loving attention. In my practice I begin the process by helping my patients to first notice and then describe the feelings in their bodies—not emotions such as anger or anxiety or fear but the physical sensations beneath the emotions: pressure, heat, muscular tension, tingling, caving in, feeling hollow, and so on. I also work on identifying the sensations associated with relaxation or pleasure. I help them become aware of their breath, their gestures and movements.

All too often, medication is prescribed, instead of teaching people the skills to deal with such distressing physical reactions. Of course, medications only blunt sensations and do nothing to resolve them or transform them from toxic agents into allies.

The mind needs to be reeducated to feel physical sensations, and the body needs to be helped to tolerate and enjoy the comforts of touch. Individuals who lack emotional awareness are able, with practice, to connect their physical sensations to psychological events. Then they can slowly reconnect with themselves.”

Energy healing reconnects you to yourself -establishes your natural flow of energy, to restore health and wellbeing. As an Energy Therapist, I support clients through the healing process, bringing the blocks to light, and supporting release, to restore the natural balance.  Healing could be understood as digestion of experiences from our past – so we are no longer at the mercy of our histories.

The client may also be guided in a process of inner inquiry.  This brings awareness to the cause of the condition and takes the healing deeper by encouraging the client's full participation in the creation of their own health and well-being.

Energy Healing complements all other types of healthcare, including orthodox medicine, and provides a comprehensive 'tool bag'  through which we can help our client explore the painful symptoms we often experience through  ‘being human’.

It allows us to bring resolution by creating positive change at a core level, restoring health and balance to our being, allowing us to engage with life in a more positive and fulfilling way.

This is the real work: every part of you that has been exiled, condemned, rejected or walled off needs to be brought close, needs to be brought right into the heart and allowed to merge into the light of loving awareness

— Christopher Hareesh Wallis
